GARDEN NECKLACE

(copyright 2007 Deborah Roberti)

Materials (for a 16-inch necklace, not including clasp):

• Waxed Nymo or C-Lon thread, size D; or 6lb FireLine, whichever is your preference

• Approximately 300 size 11/0 seeds beads or Delica beads
(I used Delica 11/0 Lt. Gold DB-34. Can be purchased at FireMountainGems.com, FoxdenDesigns.com and WhimBeads.com)

• Approximately 80 size 4mm glass pearls (or any 4mm round beads)
(I used Swarovski cream glass pearls that can be purchased online at FireMountainGems.com. You can also use the less-expensive alternative: Czech cream glass pearls that can be purchased online at ShipwreckBeads.com)

• Approximately 63 size green 4mm bicone crystals
(I used Swarovski Khaki. Can be purchased online at FireMountainGems.com)

• Approximately 40 size rose 4mm bicone crystals
(I used Swarovski Rose Satin. Can be purchased online at FireMountainGems.com)

• clasp

Step 1: You're going to have to add thread while creating this necklace so start with a length you feel comfortable working with and thread your needle.

String a green crystal, a seed bead, a green crystal, a seed bead, a green crystal and a seed bead.

Leaving a 14-16 inch tail for attaching one end of the clasp, tie the beads in a circle with a double knot:

Step 2: Go back through the green crystal, the seed bead and the green crystal:

Step 3: String a seed bead, a pearl, a seed bead, a pearl and a seed bead.

Go around and back through the green crystal you exited at the end of the last step:

Step 4: Go back through these same beads to give your necklace some added strength:

Step 5: Continue back up through the seed bead and the pearl:

Step 6: String a seed bead, a pearl, a seed bead, a pink crystal, a seed bead, a pink crystal and a seed bead.

Go around and back through the pearl you exited at the end of the last step:

Step 7: Go back through these same beads to give your necklace some added strength:

Step 8: Continue back down through the seed bead, the pearl, the seed bead, the pink crystal and the seed bead:

Step 9: String 3 seed beads.

Go around and back through the seed bead you exited at the end of the last step:

Note: If you don't want the picot edging, just skip this step.

Step 10: Go back up through the pink crystal, the seed bead, the pearl, the seed bead and the pearl (all highlighted in RED):

Step 11: String a seed bead, a green crystal, a seed bead, a pearl and a seed bead.

Go around and back through the pearl you exited at the end of the last step:

Step 12: Go back through these same beads to give your necklace some added strength:

Step 13: Go back up through the seed bead and the green crystal:

Step 14: String a seed bead, a green crystal, a seed bead, a green crystal and a seed bead.

Go around and back through the green crystal you exited at the end of the last step:

Step 15: Go back through these same beads to give your necklace some added strength:

Step 16: Continue back down through the seed bead and the green crystal (both highlighted in RED):

Repeat Steps 3 to 16 until your necklace is the length you want, minus about a half-inch and the length of your clasp.

Step 17: To attach one end of the clasp, go through the seed bead next to the green crystal that you exited at the end of the last step (highlighted in RED).

String three seed beads.

Go through the clasp and then back through the last seed bead that you just strung:

Step 18: String two more seed beads.

Go back through the seed bead you went through at the beginning of Step 17 (highlighted in RED):

Circle round through the seed beads and the clasp twice to reinforce it.

To attach the other end of the clasp, thread your needle with the tail from Step 1. Repeat Steps 17 and 18.
